After finishing his remarks on the 1944 credit the Generalissimo said that there were various questions outstanding between China and Britain, the settlement of which would lead to the cordial relations which he desired. Among them was that of Hong Kong. British rights in Hong Kong were recognised by the Chinese Government but the Chinese hope for an eventual settlement of the question. He would like His Majesty's Government to be informed of this.
8. I replied that I took note of his statement that British rights in Hong Kong were recognised by China, and would report what he had said. More than that he could not expect me to say.
